A couple of years ago I was trying to fix the frame drop issues with RPi3 and default cameras. I tried C++ , but it was not completely satisfactory: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 3&t=180929
In the end it turned out that the frame timing can be tracked correctly - but that the GPU would sometimes not pass the image to the CPU. So a solution was to track the frame #/time and either fill the video with garbage online - or fix it offline.
Does the RP4 + camera or arducam still drop frames? I am interested in streaming 1080p or 720p from 2-3 RPI4s to a desktop. I would prefer to not have to deal with this issue (i.e. another option is to purchase stand-alone cameras).
Also is the arducam any better? My recollection was that the issue was a mix of OS and RPi3 issues.
Thanks so much for the advice,
