Kernel Building -- Patches?

Wed Oct 16, 2019 3:44 pm

I am working on cross compiling the kernel at https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/tree/rpi-4.19.y-rt .
It is my understanding that TiejunChina maintains this repo with all the appropriate patches.

However, I have run into a few problems:
1.) When compiling on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, the modules_install doesn't create the files. I can fix this by cross-compiling on Debian 10.
2.) After booting the system, both the Ethernet & USB ports are not active.

Is there anyone out there that has successfully patched 4.19? If so, which version & did you patch it from PREEMPT_RT itself or using the Repo Tiejun manages?

Cheers-
Rish

What patch? You just need to follow the steps in the documentation. You can download the rpi-4.19.y-rt branch (git clone or the zip file), but there is no need to apply patches.

@Kendek, I have followed those steps and the USB and Ethernet do not power themselves up when I create the image.
I can follow the exact same steps but on the 4.19.y branch, and it works flawlessly.
Is there something else that needs to be performed when compiling and flashing the 4.19.y-rt branch?

Yeah, this is probably a bug in this kernel source. Maybe report it on GitHub.
