Monitor working with motion sensor

Wed Oct 09, 2019 7:53 pm

Hi All,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I’m a NOOB.

I’m looking to get a project going where I have a motion sensor set up and when activated a video plays on a monitor .

It’s just like the scary portrait project but I don’t want to take a video of someone activating it.

I followed the steps from below but I can’t get it working.

Any ideas or suggestions for an easier guide?

Thanks

Andyroo

You could start with https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-motion-sensor/ to handle the detection and when it is triggered base the player on https://www.instructables.com/id/Play-V ... -and-GPIO/

I’m sure that one of the MagPi magazines has a Halloween video player but the closest I can find tonight is https://www.instructables.com/id/Raspbe ... -Screamin/ - maybe a bit complex in the visuals department for you...

To run the video Python needs to call OMXPlayer - https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... xplayer.md gives you the command line options.

Update on my project

So found a guide that fits what I’m looking for https://www.instructables.com/id/Raspbe ... yer-Intro/ I have got everything set up and altered the code as a few errors came up (see attached) when I run the program in Python MU the program starts And reads
Starting up
Ready to trigger
But when I wave my hand in front of the motion sensor nothing happens (a counter should show of how many times it’s triggered). I have also tried running the program in terminal using python3 living_portrait.py filename but I get the return file/destination not found.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong
