I liked the tribute paid by a former colleague in which she stated that he was intentionally and mischeviously politically incorrect.

He wrote a ton of books and he certainly knew his stuff.

Even those without an interest in astronomy will miss him.

I guess the monical was so he could look through a telescope with the other eye?

Just paid my respects sitting in the garden looking up at a splendid Jupiter, Orion hanging about bottom left. Without watching the Sky at Night from an early age I wouldn't even know where to look. Cheers Patrick!

I will sadly miss him, saw the first Sky at Night, and never missed one since.

I remember there was a hurricane once while he was out having a curry. He survived it by sheltering under the table.

Just had to have my say...

One of his stores I liked was - he was out on an expedition somewhere remote where the food and water could not be trusted. Most of the group he was with were down with all sort of alimentary ailments and sicknesses, best not described here. P.M. however did absolutely fine, by eating nothing but bananas and drinking nothing but whisky & orange juice...

most wonderful person indeed. I remember watching the sky at night as a kid, then as a young person, then as a not so young person and now a middle aged person. He'll be sadly missed
