update rate of laser range finder

What exactly is update rate of laser range finder and why is it so low? For example i was doing some research on laser range finder on https://www.mantech.co.za/Lightware.aspx site, and i found that update rate of laser range finder i want is only 32 readings per second. Does this means it only calculated range 32 times in one second?
