Using a new phone as a monitor screen.

Mon Sep 02, 2019 8:39 pm

I am doing a science fair project on a dual-axis solar tracker on Raspberry Pi 4. I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus with Android 9 Pie and I wan to know how to use it as a monitor screen for the Pi 4 since it would drastically reduce cost and it would be small enough to bring to the fair with me.

By the way, if there is a way to use it, how do I get back to the Android OS?

You should be able to find a ssh and VNC client for the phone on the App Store.

Set the Pi up as an access point, connect the phone to it and off you go.

You may want to consider a Bluetooth or physical keyboard / mouse though...

My Android 9 SmartPhone is set up as a WiFi Hotspot.

I run RealVNC Server on my RPi 2B which is WiFi connected to my SmartPhone.

I run RealVNC Viewer App on my SmartPhone, but very fiddly even on a 5.5" screen....
