Yes, for me this is a dependency that is not in the repositories. I'm using a raspberry pi 3B+ with raspbian 9. I was wondering if anyone else tried to install this app and was unable to run it. We need more technical support. :D

Not sure how up to date my information is or how accurate my memory is, but I seem to recall looking into it and it's just that one of the dependency packages is too much of a hassle to build for the pi, so it wasn't included in Raspbian.

Thanks my friend for your support, but the solution were to use the AnkiDroid in the smartphone. Probably the Anki have not support on Debian Stretch.

Any updates on this?

I am attempting to upgrade to Debian 10 Buster via the instructions here: https://linuxize.com/post/how-to-upgrad ... 10-buster/ - hoping this will solve the issue.

Otherwise, this is kind of a huge bummer. I got the Raspberry Pi for my students, but without the ability to use Anki (the main program we use) the Raspberry Pi is almost useless for us.

Would the next step be to wipe Raspbian and try to install some other OS where Anki is working, or is that not possible either?

It would depend on which OS you want to install and if there is a version that will run on the pi, as you cant just use an OS designed for an X86/64bit desktop PC.

I mean I can’t find any information on which OS would be appropriate? I have seen people use tricks to get it to work under a Jessie like environment. I tried the same to no avail but what if I just simply downgraded the whole OS to Jessie?

I’ve read others say the issue is with Stretch and that somehow Buster 10 fixes it.

For our purposes the Pi is only useful if it runs Anki so it doesn’t matter what OS is used to make that happen.

Looking at https://apps.ankiweb.net/ - the prospects do not look encouraging...

Under Download, select the Linux tab. 2 different downloads offered...
Both options require a 64 bit Intel/AMD Linux - these packaged versions do not support 32 bit distributions or other architectures like ARM.
(Your RPi board is built around ARM processor technology.)

And further on, under Notes -
Some Linux distributions include Anki in their repositories. We've seen many users experience problems with these distributed versions, due to them being out of date or missing appropriate libraries. For this reason, the compiled package above is recommended over using the version of Anki bundled with your Linux distribution.

But you could simply try the standard Raspbian installation technique using -

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt install anki
(Haven't tried this... it is apparently available in Debian but a comment already made in this thread suggests it may have been omitted from Raspbian because of missing dependencies referred to by the developers.)

Have you tried asking the developers behind this package for support?

True. But with some heavy google searching it seems a lot of alternative methods have been employed and been successful.
