just a thought... universal laptop style interface for Rpi

Tue Jul 16, 2019 1:46 pm

Yes, i am aware of Pi-Top, and the Motorola Lapdock. what i was thinking is something with a simple, but good size HDMI screen, and a USB keyboard and trackpad. just plug any Rpi into it and away you go. IIRC, the Pi-Top uses some GPIO pins, and my experience with the Motorola Lapdock is that they can be unreliable. though perhaps that is just my experience...

I'm sure something like this could be arranged. It should meet all your plug n play minus GPIO requirements.

You're free to try your hand at making your own as well that's what the pi is all about :D .

Done alreday https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... d#p1361021

PCB size is 10x10cm; can even drive a second display if you have Bank0 GPIO free

]not really as elegant as i had in mind, but i see where you are going with it. ;)

i will see what i can come up with. maybe i can whittle something out of wood, as i am a carpenter by trade, and i just happen to have a CNC router in my possession.

Also, have a look at the Fin https://www.balena.io/fin/ or the Pi-Top https://accounts.pi-top.com/products/pi-top
the Fin looks interesting... have to keep that in mind. and the Pi-Top... all i can think to say is, wow that's expensive now!

i think i will continue with the DIY laptop idea. either that, or i have to figure out what smoked in my Motorola Lapdock 500 pro. i actually have two of them. one i think i killed, the other was DOA (sold as "Parts, or fix it" on eBay).
