GPIO remote control Webiopi

Tue Dec 04, 2012 4:55 am

Hi Team

I have a project to create a system that when one of our servers goes down we get a flashing light going off for a few seconds so we are alerted that there is an issue.

We already have an inhouse monitoring system that sends us an email when these alerts happen, which is cool, but we quite often are not aware there is a problem if we are not always in the email and face first administering something else.

I am confident that I can do this with a r-pi, so went ahead and ordered one.

I have been tinkering with webiopi which is cool but I have no knowledge of how to use the REST api or JS commands.

Basically our inhouse monitoring system can do a number of things when a alert is triggered and one of them is run a command on a remote system - or visit a webpage etc
So, if I could construct a command on the Pi that would turn gpio pin 17 on for 3 seconds and then turn it off again, this will work. this could even be via running a php script or something.

Any hints to the right direction would be much appreciated.

Regards

Landyn
