1Hz clicking whilst NOT playing audio in XBMC (solved)

Sun Dec 02, 2012 11:12 pm

I have tried Raspmc (RC5) and OpenElec (Dec 2 build) and with two different HDMI cables into two different HDMI ports on my TV I have a clicking at about 1Hz when navigating menus after playing and then stopping (but not pausing) audio playback. I have tried unplugging and plugging back in the HDMI cable and that fixes it until I repeat the process. The clicking is loud, and a little different to the popping you get between tracks using the analog 3.5mm jack. I have tried an iPad and a Kindle power supply, neither make any different, nor does altering all the relevant settings I can find, with airplay enabled or not, keyboard/mouse plugged in or not, ethernet unplugged etc. A temporary fix is to change the display resolution or refresh rate, a bit like unplugging the HDMI cable. I need to test more using the 3.5mm jack to see if this occurs and work out how to post on the bug tracking forums for XBMC I suspect, but does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks. Xbian also does it.

The fix? Unbelievably it was updating the firmware on my TV! Toshiba Regza.

Now I need to decide between OpenElec and Xbian (Raspmc was crashing a lot).

So, it may depend on tv brand also?

Xbian is damned good - very active developers (despite the despicable ddos attack they've suffered recently).

Xbian seems to be working very well, playing video now as that was causing Raspmc to reset every few minutes. Other advantages: Xbian clock is correct and has expanded to fill the SD card. OpenElec clock was also correct, didn't crash, but the image I downloaded didn't expand to fill the SD card, minor point.

Am controlling it from iPhone or iPad. Have installed various add ons, including iPlayer, ITV player, Demand 5 (doesn't work), watching 4od just now. Need to do a bit more testing with Airplay. I'm amazed how slick the Raspberry Pi can be as a media device.
