Keyboard unrecognized

Sat Dec 01, 2012 6:57 pm

Hi everybody !

Under raspbian, are there keyboards that are not recognized at all ?

I mean : I have a Dell keyboard, which works under linux deskop box, and a microsoft curve keyboard, which works perfect under same os, and also under winxp.
So I tried both... and the raspberry didn't do them to work at all.. no led no keys... nothing. So when rasp.config comes... I can do nothing.

Thanks a lot for help..
Laurent.

This problem usually occurs when either the keyboard requires more than 100mA or when the power supply used for powering the Pi is rated less than the recommended 700mA.

Your desktop can provide more juice to the USB ports which is probably why they run fine on there.

See this post at the wiki for more information.

The solution to the problem is usually to either use a powered USB hub with the keyboard attached to it, or seek out a power supply capable of delivering 850-1000mA, or perhaps change the keyboard out for one requiring 100mA or less. My keyboard for example is one of these A4Tech KL-5 keyboards which requires only 20mA.

Hope this info helps.

Thank you for your answer. I guess you're right.

The Dell keybord I mentionned is a sk-8115 wich is supposed to "work directly in pi" as said in http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals#USB_Keyboards page. So it should work..

I used a Htc Desire power supply with its usb cable.. perhaps i could try another power supply my wife has, wich is a "direct to micro usb" power supply.

I'll tell if it's alright..

Thanks again :)

Laurent.

Well.. i'm confused..

I have controled that my keyboards (both wired), my mouse (logitech wireless) are ok on the page I mentionned before : it's ok.

But my power supply is also ok :
HTC 5V 1A TC E250 USB charger (HTC R/N: 79H00098-02M)
:-(

So : what's happening ? Do I still need to change my power supply ?

Btw : about the power supply of my wife, it's worse : it gives only 700mA, and there are same problems with keyboard..

You are not the only one having keyboard/mouse problems. Following thread goes unanswered:

http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 28&t=23613

And following two threads indicate that not all problems like yours are necessarily power issues. Solution for them was installing a kernel patch!
