Xmbc remote control

Thu Nov 29, 2012 8:47 pm

I'm currently using xmbc remote app for android, which is fine for the time being.

However, I'm not always going to be around so I need a remote. There seems to be a fair few:

I really want something simpler though, ie not dissimilar to the android app buttons as my five year old will want to use it

Are any available, or should I look at getting a cheap as chips android and using that? Suggestions/recommendations?

Am running raspbmc btw

As always, thanks in advance!

Forgot to add, in the spirit of this being a budget media centre, ie I have only bought the pi and a USB enclosure it needs to be as cheap as possible ;)

They're just out of stock - preorder and you'll get one! Or email the developer - he's very helpful.

thanks.
I am not technical and am wondering how this really works. I just want to find a remote that I can "pair" if that is the word with a universal remote or a portion of it that will eventually interact with a program we are writing not to be able to work a media center software.

Any help would be appreciated.

Easy - plug flirc dongle iinto PC (Windows). Run config program - choose a keyboard layout - point remote at dongle and program it using the on screen keyboard. Unplug dongle - put into pi. Start Pi. Pick up remote and hey presto ... the remote keys work.

You can program it as simple or comlex as you like.
