Fastest possible WIFI speed on 3B?

I was wondering what the fastest possible wifi speed on the raspi model 3B (as in mb/s for downloads) Also, what USB wifi dongle would be compatible with Rasbian and Retropie?

A 3B is limited to 54mbs 802.11 g if you buy the latest compatible usb wifi plug in h/w 802.11 ax iirc you should theoretically be able to download at the best speeds possible, however your router/AP would also need to be of the same class of h/w.

The Wi-Fi chip on a 3B supports 802.11 b/g/n and as such is not limited to 54 Mbit/s.

The actual speed that can be achieved in practice depends on too many factors to be able to give a specific number.
