Need some help

Tue Nov 27, 2012 9:37 pm

Hi,
I'm in need of a device that can diagnose a car (through OBD2 bluetoth adapter) and that can act as a screen and wifi singal receiver for wireless remote camera.

My questions:
Would RasPI be a right choice?
How long does it take to turn on?
Is it laggy?
How could I connect it to the rear view camera, as I don't want to wait 30 secs for it to connect every time I put in reverse (because I would wire it to the power cable of the reverse light, so everytime reverse light turns on, so does the reverse camera and it's signal)

1. Why not just wire it into the general power system and leave the Pi on when the car's ignition is on...it only draws about 2W when idle?

2. See if RISC OS will handle everything else. It is said to boot in 10 secs.

3. You may want a delayed shutdown. Just dropping power on a Pi *can* corrupt the SD card.

I can confirm that dropping power on a Pi using RISC OS *often does* cause SD corruption - less so with Linux, I've noticed.
