Will this set up be ok to power my RPi?

Tue Nov 27, 2012 1:59 pm

I only have a couple of power sockets round the back of my TV so I was wondering if I could run a Pi using a usb to micro usb running from my powered usb hub then connect the usb hub to the pi with the usb to that D shaped end as normal?

I've done a diagram here to explain what I'm thinking on doing:

As long as you are using a Rev2 (or late Rev1 Board, you don't need to connect the USB1 port to the MicroUSB power socket on the RPi. The upstream port from the Hub will back-feed power to the RPi and it will power up as soon as the Hub is powered. This method has the advantage of bypassing the F3 Polyfuse which seems to be causing a volt drop for some users.

Just make sure that your Hub is powered by a 5V 2A Power source.
