High ping times to Raspberry Pi

Sat Apr 13, 2019 8:03 am

Hi, I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times on this forum, however, I haven't found anything so far that helps me.
I'm a beginner Pi user (Pi 3B+) who intends to use it as a server. I'm currently hosting a Discord bot user and a private Minecraft server on it at the same time, and I'm experiencing high ping times from my computer (and any other device) to the Pi. The Pi is connected to my router via Ethernet, and the rest of the devices communicate with it either through WiFi or over the internet. At best, I experience 3-50ms to the Pi from my main PC, however, on most other occasions, I experience upwards of 2000ms ping. However, ping times from the Pi to my router are normal, at <1ms.

Here is a ping log from my Pi to my router:

And here is a ping log from my PC to the Pi:

Not sure what could be causing this. Any ideas?

Fast ping over Ethernet, slow and fluctuating ping over WiFi.
Nothing special here.

Hi 7pt, assuming both your PC and the Pi are using wired connections, you should be getting PC->Pi ping times of about half a millisecond.

You are seeing 4 ms, ballooning up to over 2 seconds. Not sure why this is, but it might just be that your Pi is very busy running both discord and minecraft.
