Touchchat style app for a touchscreen using a pi

Mon Mar 11, 2019 3:21 pm

:?: I developed the hardware configuration for a cheaper alternative for an aac device but I need software to fully support nonverbal students.

I need an app that I can put a word or picture into a block and once pressed it would say the programmed word. I know Espeak exists but it only uses the keyboard. I need something that i can put a pec or phrase into and allow the child to speak.

Any suggestions?

Are you looking for an existing App or are you looking for help to write one yourself?

I seem to recall a similar project before but can't find it.

How many words do you need?
I know of one program that can easily do this, and could possibly build you a sample, but this isn't its intended purpose, so would require manually adding every single word you'd ever want to use.

It's support on the Raspberry Pi is currently minimal / experimental and it only works on a Pi2b or Pi3b / Pi3b+
I am yet to test it on a Pi3A+. I suspect it will work, but the limited RAM of a Pi3A+ is a slight concern.
