Pi R. don't start anymore

Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:00 pm

Hi all,

I used a version B (256MB) for several hours, with RaspBMC distro.
Suddnely the board don't start anymore.
I tried all written in the troubleshoting WIKI page, but with no success.

I suppose the board is faulty, but before ask for a repalcement, I ask to the community some suggestions to try to solve the issue.

Before stop to work, the Pi worked fine.

My try at this time with no success.
1 - Change USB power cord
2 - Change USB power supply (i tried to use a normal USB PC port too)
3 - Change SD Card
4 - Change distro on SD cards.

Any suggestion is very appreciate.

It sounds like you tried to do all the right things to get it working.

Out of curiosity can you describe what it does when you power it on?

How far does it get in the boot process?

Do you see the green activity LED blink?

Do you ever see the big Raspberry picture on the screen?

Connecting power supply, the Power Led (red) turn on.
The green Led not blink, the video remain black (no signal) using either HDMI and RCA output.

It could possibly be the connections to the SD card.
Try squeezing the card onto its connections - a clothes peg could work. If it boots like that, then gently lifting the springy pins could solve it.

Dear Burngate,
yes the problem is the SD socket.

I tried to push with my finger the SD card when power on the card, the Green led light on for one second then blink for about 20 seconds.
The card seems to work again.

I'm worried to lifting the springypins. The pins itself seems to make a good contact with sd card.
So I don't understand why a slight pressure on the SD card is required to have a correct boot.

Can you explain me better the way to lifting the springypins without damage the connector ?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know what the best way of lifting them. Someone suggested a tooth-pick or similar.
I've not had the problem myself. I'm just going on other people's reports.

You say "The pins itself seems to make a good contact with sd card" but you can't actually see them when the card is in.
The card's contacts are slightly recessed below the card's face so the pins have to project well above the face of the slot the card slides on.
Looking at one of mine, it looks like about half a millimeter, but I can't actually measure it.
