Internet Connection Help

Thu Nov 08, 2012 9:17 am

Hello Guys,

New in the forum first post!

Purpose to achieve -
1 - working tightvncserver
2 - working internet connection

I have a
iBall baton [Wireless router] - WAN wire connected to give internet.
Raspberry pi - connected to router with ethernet
Laptop connected to router wirelessly

iBall baton is the DHCP and has assigned the ip to my laptop and raspberry

raspberry pings to router and my laptop

Laptop can connect to the internet, after i open a software and type my username and password, or i have just open any website and it will automatically divert me to the authentication page, ask for username and password, and then i can open webpages, provided i keep the logged in page open.

Once I have the logged in page open or the software connected, I can basically get internet on any device which is connected to my router.

Raspberry pi doesnt get the internet connection.

My wireless adaptor has obtain ip address automatically, but uses the following dns server 8.8.8.8 if i remove the dns or change it, i loose internet on my laptop as well.

I think if I am able to match the above settings like obtain ip address automatically and use the following dns server then i should be able to make it work is wat my assumption is.

I am new with commands, I tried to do what the internet says, it asked me to edit some files, eth0 and all, however once i start typing i dont know how to exit, or save the commands or whatever, so I am here to gain assistance. I realized I am just not the right guy to get this working.

vnc doesnt work because it is trying to download package from the internet.

Do you log into your pi and type 'startx' to start up the graphical user interface(GUI) ?

If you do that you should have an icon on your desktop for Midori, which is a web browser and would give you the same opportunity to type in your name and password like you do on your laptop.

i agree. . .

Its that i cant give it a screen based access as of now, because the place where my tv is is far from the the place where I have my router to give a wired connection to raspi. . .

Thanks for the suggestion, any better suggestion?

I just wanna setup an extra dns to my pi like the attached screen, just give me the script and i will copy paste it.

I basically want my pie to get ip address and details, automatically, and I want it to use a specific dns server like in the attached screen shot.

If any help can be given on those grounds it will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.
