Real time kernel patch

Sun Sep 16, 2018 1:50 pm

Hey guys! I'm fairly new to Raspberry. I have a Pi 3 and I need to have a real time kernel. Actual version as seen from uname -r is 4.14.69-v7+. I've recompiled it as per these isntructions https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... uilding.md with the only difference being that I used make menuconfig instead of make bcm2709_defconfig to have a GUI. Everything looks fine and after the reboot the kernel versione got updated to 4.14.69-V7+. Now, even if I turned on the real time option in make menuconfig, it's not RT yet. So I tried to patch it as per this link https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... atching.md of course replacing the patch version with the correct one. Aaand I get the error

Code: Select all

gzip: patch-4.14.69-rt43.patch already exists; do you wish to overwrite (y or n)? y
can't find file to patch at input line 5
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:
--------------------------
|diff --git a/Documentation/trace/events.txt b/Documentation/trace/events.txt
|index 2cc08d4a326e..e28f7f29f2b3 100644
|--- a/Documentation/trace/events.txt
|+++ b/Documentation/trace/events.txt
--------------------------

Sooo... what should I do now? Itried keeping ESC pressed while rebooting to see if there were other options like in Ubuntu, but nothing came up.

Can someone help me? Thanks.

Do you mean something like conky? https://html.dynu.net/index.php/installing-conky-linux/ Not really sure what you mean by real time kernel.

Nope, I don't mean anything like Conley. I'm talking about a real time kernel for real time operation. In my case, I'm working with the powerlink protocol, which needs a real time kernel.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. But if you're interested search for terms such as 'RT kernel', realtime kernel' also combined with 'raspberry pi'

Yes, that's what I mean. Thing is I get the attached error when trying to apply the patch.

Return to “Raspbian”
