Prota Trigger to Turn on Insteon Light

Mon Aug 27, 2018 9:55 pm

I'm trying to get a sensor tied to Prota to turn on an Insteon light switch. I'm running Prota on a Rapsberry Pi B. I believe that there's no direct connection from Prota to Insteon, and I need to use a circular route from Prota to IFTTT to Stringify to Insteon.

I'm trying to set up that route, but can't get it work after trying for days. Has anyone done this who could help me figure it out? Or point to a helpful link?

I suspect the problem is in the link between Prota and IFTTT - but there could be other issues. Thanks much.

Welcome to the Raspberry Pi forums.

To save others having to do the research, I'll point out that Prota appears to be an Operating System that runs on your RPi as an alternative to the Raspberry Pi Foundation recommended and supported Raspbian Stretch Operating System.

Perhaps you might get knowledgeable assistance from their own support channels, linked from that website?

Thanks for the links to the correct forum.

While I'm here, though, I should ask: can a GPIO sensor from within Raspbian trigger an Insteon light? Is that discussed here? Maybe that will be a more direct route for me to accomplish the goal.

Thank you.

Disclaimer: I have no direct knowledge of any of the technology you mention - just trying to nudge you towards possible resources.

The Insteon website says
You can easily install an Insteon system on your own, without any expertise or automation background and then control it from any smartphone, tablet or computer
"control it from any [ ... ] computer" - sounds encouraging? But you might need to ask them how.

Using an Internet search tool with the string "raspbian insteon " throws up some prior discussion in these forums as well as resources elsewhere that might be worth following up?
