Automotive Accessories Controler

Wed Aug 15, 2018 1:19 pm

I am working on a project using a pi and a 16ch relay board to build an automotive BCM. I am stuck on how to efficiently redesign the power seat circuit to use the board as the controller. The outup side of the relay board can handle 10 amps at 12v no problem, but a power seat motor can have peak start up in the 20 to 30 amp range. I was going to use larger bosch style automotive relays controlled by the board. am I going to need to use a separate relay channel to control each direction of seat movement? Attached is a fairly basic power seat wiring diagram.

What do you mean precisely with this. I think the schematic that you provide is as basic as you can get. And when you drive for example both relais at the same time. Nothing bad happens(short circuit). So you need two control lines for each motor, so that it can turn left or right.
And as you said there are indeed special relays for this kind of application and you need to be very carefully choose them in an automotive application.
