Raspberry 3b+ : which video player with hardware acceleration

Sun Aug 12, 2018 10:49 pm

Hello.
First of all, sorry for my poor english ans if the question have been already asked !
I've read a lot of topic in several forum but i don't know what is the discussion still ok now. Sometimes, it's old topic (raspberry 2 or 3, but not 3b+)

I've bought my first raspberry for days ago.

I want to connect my raspberry with hdmi on my tv.
On my raspberry, i connect on USB a NTFS hard Drive.

I just want to use my raspberry to watch videos on my tv

What video player can i use , which use harware acceleration and which is user friendly ?

I've tried to compil VLC with harware acceleration, but it appears in overaly, without any command ,: it's not very user friendly

Do you have a solution for me ? Can you help me, with a tutorial, how to install it ?

Many thanks on advance

omxplayer has hardware acceleration, but its a command line program, so keyboard controlled (unless you add a GUI shell).

and KODI, which is a full media centre, not just a video player, but it is "user friendly".

+1 for Kodi

+1 KODI - either OSMC or Libreelec; both are easy to install (via an SD card) and have good support.
