enable the camera module on chromium browser

Sun Aug 12, 2018 3:40 pm

I have an RPi3 running Raspbian stretch, and the NoIR camera module installed. When running "raspistill -v -o test.jpg" I get a picture, so I know the camera works correctly.

Using chromium-browser, I open webcamtoy.com and try to take a picture through the browser. But I get a message saying "Camera not found".

I did a bit of digging and one suggestion was to run "sudo modprobe bcm2835-v4l2", but I had no luck with that.
Another suggestion was to install uv4l & uv4l-raspicam, but again, chromium still doesn't detect my camera.

This is how I installed uv4l & uv4l-raspicam

Code: Select all

curl http://www.linux-projects.org/listing/uv4l_repo/lpkey.asc | sudo apt-key add -
sudo echo 'deb http://www.linux-projects.org/listing/uv4l_repo/raspbian/stretch stretch main' >> /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y uv4l uv4l-raspicam
uv4l --driver raspicam --auto-video_nr
Any suggestions on how to get the camera module working with chromium?
Thanks

my bad. this fixed it.

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i -e "\$asnd-bcm2835" /etc/modules
sudo sed -i -e "\$abcm2835-v4l2" /etc/modules
echo "options bcm2835-v4l2 gst_v4l2src_is_broken=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/bcm2835-v4l2.conf
obviously I was not loading the module on startup.
