POS On Pi (2018)

Sun Aug 12, 2018 4:15 am

Hi All,

i am gong to start a fresh development of Point Of Sale application on Pi. I am tring to gather information to identify which is the best langauge/db to start with. Since this POS runs on Pi, i am more concerned about performance and data integrity/consistency.

Here are the list of stuff i identified to develop this POS.

1. Programming language - C++ (Initially thought of doing with python but c++ is much faster)
2. Tools - QT5/QT Creator
3. DB - Not yet finalized. Thought of going with MYSQL but started thinking after reading lot of posts. Many recommend sqllite but still need to think.
4. Platform - Pi with SSD Sata.
5. Budget - Should not go morethan $100.

i need more hands to help. if anybody want to join hands with me, please let me know. Let us do it together.

And also please validate the 5 points listed above and let me now what do you think.

i am adding year to the subject so people can easily identify that it is the lastest post.

Thanks,

$100 may be a tight budget with SSD storage (depending on capacity needed).
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

$100 is not selling price. It is cost price.

I'm pretty sure that @HawaiianPi was aware of that.
It still seems to be a tight budget...
You want performance so that's a Pi3, SSD, screen, input devices (mouse, barcode scanner, keyboard)?
QAnd do you need some sort physical output (printer)?

Yes.
Printer is required. But $100 includes only Pi and SSD.

And here are some changes
1. Programming language - Nodejs,Bootstrap, Handlebar or Angularjs 6. Not C++
2.. Tools - It is going to be VS Code Not QT5/QT Creator
3. DB - Not yet finalized. Thought of going with MYSQL but started thinking after reading lot of posts. Many recommend sqllite but still need to think.
4. Platform - Pi with SSD Sata.
5. Budget - Should not go morethan $100.

Why SSD, and what capacity (how much storage)?

Don't forget to budget for development time and testing. Anything money related will give you a world of hurt when it goes wrong.

Yes Mr. Thagrol. Your are right and thanks.

I am investigating on the technology.

Option 1: Develop using c++/QT4.

OR

Opton 2. Develop using Nodejs/bootstrap.

If anybody have experiance and pros/cons of the above, please let me know.

Thanks
