The built in WIFI in the laptop might be old standard 802.11g. If so make sure that the WIFI router is also set to 802.11g -OR- mixed mode 802.11 g and n.
It is also possible that the laptop WIFI is the even older 802.11b which newer router might not support at all.
My router is set to 802.11n only and I don't want to change it, so I disabled the built in WIFI (b & g only) in my laptop and use a USB WIFI dongle which supports the much faster 802.11n standard.
Need complete model number..... there are too many variants.
