Spring watch DIY camera

Wed Jun 13, 2018 7:23 am

You probably know of this project using a Raspberry PI.
At
https://mynaturewatch.net/terms-and-conditions

I want to build one but I think it involves a PI with in built wifi.
I have a PI with camera port but no wifi I use a usb dongle.

Their image does not seem to work.

Does anyone know of any forum for this project as I have a number of questions.

Thanks
Jim

The My Naturewatch cameras are prototypes and are still being developed and tested in different scenarios. Your input will help us understand how people might use the camera kits and help us improve our designs.

If you have written the image to the microSD card correctly, maybe the image is fine but does not support your WiFi dongle and thus does not active itself as an Access Point?

Would it be possible to connect a display and keyboard to modify the configuration?

I have keyboard and mouse attached and it boots to command line
I edit /etc/network/interfaces
And added my IP and wifi details.
I can now connect over the net using putty
And also get a web page with Start Recording , Sensitivity , View Photos
Currently I have no camera, they are out of stock !
But will get one eventually.

Where is best place to ask questions ??

Thanks,
Jim

If it is specifically about the Mynaturewatch project, and the Operating System they have provided, I still suggest their own Contact page.

If it is a general question about your unspecified model of RPi you should probably use these forums.

You have not chosen to use the option in the forum software to indicate your location, but I note that in the UK the Raspberry Pi Foundation camera module seems to be in stock at all the usual suppliers. See https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/camera-module-v2/

FYI: Pimoroni's kit for this project actually contains a v1 clone camera board: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/my-n ... ard-camera

CPC-Farnell claim to have several hundred in stock. http://cpc.farnell.com/raspberry-pi/rpi ... dp/SC14028

If you have transport you could use Click and Collect to get one 'over the counter' from their Preston outlet:

CPC
Component House, Fulwood, Preston
PR2 9PP

No.
CPC is official RPF v2 camera (8MPixel)
Pimoroni is a v1 clone (same camera, but not the same board, etc.

As @DirkS has pointed out, No, not the same.

The Pimoroni listing is Not for an official Raspberry Pi Foundation camera module, which is what I checked the availablity for. It has lower resolution, and is only compatible with RPizero boards with a camera connector.

If the RPi board you are trying to use for this project is a standard model with a 'full size' (credit card size) circuit board you may find the Pimoroni camera cable does not fit.

OK I got my V2.1 camera and adapter cable for the PI zero from Pimoroni, VERY quick delivery!
There was a white disk with a hole in the centre in the box.
What's that for ??
