7" DSI Touchscreen questions

Mon May 14, 2018 2:49 am

Bunch of questions actually. What are the 2 extra wires for, it comes with 4, works with 2, what gives? Why is there a USB port on the back? Is that so you can still use a 4th from the PI? Why can't I see the bottom of the screen running Raspbian no matter what setting I try? It doesn't seem to have that issue with Retropie. All I can think if for now.

The USB connector is for power output

Which resolution do you try? Display is 800x480pixel only!

It won't set to 800 x 480, It cuts off the bottom of the screen. It wouldn't bother me really except for one game I like to play. This is only in Raspbian, so no biggie. I think it's going to go in my car for gaming or android auto or something. At home I have a spare monitor.

The extra two jumpers are for the SDA SCL PIN's which are used for the very old earlier Pi models. There is a signal missing from the DSI on those early Pi models. If your Pi is anything but very old you don't need them.
If you power the display board via its Micro USB, the other full sized USB Port can be used to send power to the PI. With a USB to Micro USB cable. There are some custom short ones out there for this if you do a Google search.

Is this a new or used screen?
