Ethernet LED questions - what is normal?

Sun May 13, 2018 2:50 pm

I have a new RPi 3B+. I intend to use it with MoOde so made an SD with the Lite OS version required. It boots up fine, USB keyboard works fine, but I’m stuck trying to move on via Ethernet. I’m plugged directly to the router and with Pi booted up and logged in, I get ONE light, the left one, blinking green with long on and very short off. The LED on the right does not light up at all.

I don’t think it’s connecting at all. I can’t see the device with SSH tools, and the series of command to load Moode do nothing, which they say is what happens when there’s no Ethernet connection. I don’t know what else to check, but what are the LEDs telling me about the connection please?

If I am not mistaken, the orange light on the left is a solid light and the green one on the right blinks when there is activity. Try using raspbian.

On my 3B+ connected to a 1000Mb switch, I get the orange light on most of the time and it blinks off when there is network activity. I think the green one comes on instead when connected to 100Mb. I'm happy to be corrected on that.

Are you connecting via SSH?

SSH is disabled by default in Raspbian. Did you enable it?

Is the Pi headless, or do you have a screen?
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?
