Connecting and send Data from a FPGA to the Raspberry

Sat May 12, 2018 3:26 pm

Hey there,

I am working on a project that involve signal processing with an FPGA and send that processed data to the Raspberry pi.

What I would like to ask you guys, is what do you think would be the best and feasible way to connect the both components?

I dont need much throughput since I will be sending data to the Raspberry every 0.1 seconds in the "worst" scenario. The amount of information wont be that large also.

Well how much data exactly, how fast?

My humble with FPGA projects all communicate to their hosts over a serial link.

So why not just connect to the UART pins on the Pi GPIO header.

SPI.
I use an FPGA as the master, communicating a STM32F432.
But as the Pi has to be the master then you are somehow going to have to set the Pi to initiate the transfer. But its do’able.

You can make a real CPU in a FPGA, but you can’t make a real FPGA in a CPU.

Good luck on your project jolex. If you can post updates .
