Overlayfs for the latest raspibian stretch?

Does anyone have an example of an overlayfs that works with the latest raspbian stretch and a pi 3 b+? I had an overlay system implemented on my raspberry pi 3 but then I updated to a 3b+ and the latest stretch. Now my overlayfs no longer works. I keep trying several guides I have found for older versions but they do not work. Thanks.

In my experience, the only working solution with latest Stretch (tested on 2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch-lite) is at this link:

All the other solutions forced me to flash again the SD from scratch.
