How to monitor NTP remotely?

Fri Oct 26, 2012 1:44 pm

Hi, my first post here. I'm new to Linux, although I have run a very little FreeBSD and some Windows.

I would like to monitor NTP's operation from a remote PC, and although ntpq -p works when logged onto an SSH console on the Pi, it doesn't work when run from PCs on the rest of the network. I guess this is some sort of firewall-type issue, but how to fix it I have no idea, nor do I know where to look. I would be using vi to edit whatever file it is...

Eventually I want to add a GPS device and enable PPS support (as I've done on Windows and FreeBSD), but I can see I have a long way to go first!

Thanks,
David

Resolved - there were security restrictions in the ntp.conf file. Removed those and NTP can now be monitored on the LAN. My thanks to Peter Goodhall for highlighting this. Next step - how to recompile NTP for a more recent version, and then think about PPS support.
