I have a adafruit resistive touch screen (2.8) and for whatever reason, ive spent about 30 hours on over 30-40 forums trying to figure out how to rotate the display. ive went into the config files, I went into the adafruit config files... its giving me a headache just thinking about it
please send help, every source is heavily outdated

I have a similar display.
Obviously rotating in 90 degrees does not produce a working display at all. (display_rotate=1)
Rotating 180 degrees does nothing. (display_rotate=2)
So my guess is that you can not rotate this display at all.
Oops.. I spoke too soon.
In the manual it says:
dtoverlay=pitft28r,rotate=90,speed=32000000,fps=20
I have to try this...
Works like a dream... I tried rotate=180 and rotate=90.
So you need to edit /boot/config.txt
The dtoverlay sentence at the bottom of the config file.
