RFID payment system for arcade machines

Tue Mar 20, 2018 11:24 pm

Hi everyone, first time here and a complete newbie.
I'm posting this in the beginners board but it is probably a more advanced project.

So, subject to funding, I will be opening a retro gaming arcade that uses the original coin-op arcade machines. I want to be able to hook up a cashless payment system using RFID with Raspberry Pi. I want to offer the customers the option to pay at the counter a one time fee and be able to play freeplay on all the machines for the whole day by flashing a fob or card over the RFID reader on the machines.

Is it possible to hook in the raspberry pi to send a pulse to the coin acceptor so that is loads in credit? Also; I would like to have all the machines connected to a LAN that uses a back office terminal to enable and disable the fobs/cards at the end of the day. Also; I need to be able to set a delay of, say, a minute after a customer flashes a fob before it'll work again. This is so he/she doesn't just flash all the machines so that their mates can all play for free.

Is this even doable?

Probably. But a lot more information would be need on the arcade hardware etc,

And as you're dealing with money (even on a rfid fob) be prepared for all the baggage the comes with that.
