How do you upgrade the Arduino IDE to version Arduino 1.8.5

Hello:

I installed Arduino 1.8.5 but it does not launch. The older version, Arduino 2:1.0.5+dfsg2-4.1, is installed and does launch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

if you have problems pls show
+ what system you have ( and if you run update upgrade )
+ how you install and what error you got.

here i show how i did install 1.8.4 after installing STRETCH
pls find code for arduinoinst.sh what use the latest version
nano arduinoinst.sh
chmod +x arduinoinst.sh
./arduinoinst.sh

sorry, i think i did not install after i installed arduino via "apt"
so possibly need to remove that first??

ok, for test i rerun it and got
desktop icon,
1.8.6 hourly build 2018/03/16

that means version 1.8.5 +++
