Multimode optical fiber signal compensation

Wed Mar 14, 2018 9:49 pm

Hi,

In our application we are using multimode optical fiber to send signal from PTZ camera to the video feed using sdi over fiber kit, the problem is our optical distance is longer about 100m but this module can loud only 500m for multimode fiber, is there any compensation modules available to bust the optical signal ?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
John

I cannot make any sense of your claim that you using an SDI link to convey the output of an IP camera.

Also your distances do not seem to make sense. 500 metres is much more than 100 metres.

And none of this has anything to do with RPis.

Our distance is about 600 meters (multimode optical fiber) but the module supports only 500 meters.
Is there any compensation modules available to bust the optical signal ?

Thanks,

I'm puzzled.
Why are you asking about optical fibre communication on the Raspberry Pi forum?

As has already been mentioned this isn't really an on topic post for these forums, but::

You may find it works over a longer than allowed distance so you could try, but it's also possible you might get intermittent issues. There may be repeater modules but these would likely be sdi compatible - you should probably talk to your supplier.

500m will be the limit for that type of fibre based on the speed of switching that's used, you may get a slightly longer distance by changing the type of drivers used (in networking you'd be changing sx modules to lx ones but that's only a small increase in distance). The normal way to get more distance would be to change to singlemode fibre (which also normally means changing the driver modules).

The distance limits are all about how the light bounces within the fibre.
