Remote Connection For Motioneye

Tue Feb 20, 2018 1:30 pm

I've installed motioneye onto my zero w and all works great. I would, however, like to view it remotely but everything I've read seems outdated in as much as it's telling me to edit the sudo nano /etc/dhcpcd.conf by adding

Code: Select all

interface eth0
static ip_address=192.168.0.28

interface wlan0
static_address=192.168.0.29

static routers=192.168.0.1
static doamin_name_servers=194.168.4.100 194.168.8.100
and then the first line should contain eth0 XXXXXX and mine doesn't.

Then there's port forwarding which everything says is insecure. I've tried Weaved/remoteit before but that never worked and looking at the site feedback others have had the issue.
I'm a bit swamped in it all now and confused.

Do you mean MotionEyeOS ?
https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos/wiki

By remotely, do you mean from another computer/device on the local network.
Or from out in the wild internet away from home.

If on the same network and you have setup the WiFi during install, then you just point your webbrowser to the devices IP address. (you should be able to put in the 'name' of the pi to, but I forget what the default is).

If it is from ont he Internet, then it's down to your router to be setup. Search how to use Port Forwarding.

They have a Google Group and a Facebook page as well as the Wiki to work through.

Yes, MotioneyeOS. I actually thought Motioneye and MotioneyeOS were different things but the screenshots look the same.
I mean from a computer from a distance. I have figured the port forwarding thing and set that up as far as I can see but do I then have to annotate something on the Pi too?
I can't find anything on the Google group by looking. It's a little awkward to search. I'll try the Facebook group. The wiki hasn't helped me.
I only cry for help on here when I'm stumped. I like to muddle through best I can and learn along the way knowing I can always start again easily on the Pi.

On your Router , give the MotionEye Pi a reserved IP address.
Then setup port forwarding rules on the Router to the needed ports on Motion Eye Pi.
The wiki recommends to use different external.port to the common internal ports (just a security measure, so probably try that later).
It also tells you the needed ports on the wiki.

That's it.

Go out side to another computer or over mobile data and connect to you internet IP with the port number after it.

The trick is all in your router, the MotionEye Pi should be left as it would be for connecting within you network.
