How to cut the single row headers if you get 18 pin headers

Sat Oct 20, 2012 3:08 pm

The assembly manual gives efficient cutting sizes for 4 * 36 pin header strips. My kit was supplied with 8 * 18 pin strips. I found the following to be efficient cutting:

Strip 1 - Do not cut. 18 pins required.
Strip 2 - Cut into 12 and 6 pin sections.
Strip 3 - Cut into 8, 8 and 2 pin sections.
Strip 4 - Cut into 8, 8 and 2 pin sections.
Strip 5 - Cut into 8, 7 and 3 pin sections.
Strip 6 - Cut into 10 and 8 pin sections.
Strip 7 - Cut into 12 and 6 pin sections.
Strip 8 - Cut into 7 and 11 pin sections. (The 11 pins are not used)

Combine the 18 pins (strip 1) and the 6 pins (strip 2) to give 24 pins for the headers above the LEDs.

Combine the 10 pins (strip 6) and the 7 pins (strip 8) to give 17 pins for J2.

The rest fit as they are sized. You can, if desired, cut a two pin header from the spare 11 pins for use as the 3v3 jumper at the top left of the board.

You will note that the manual only mentions one 12 pin header (J12...J17) the second one is used for J3 which is marked B1..B12 on the board.

Cheers,
Norm.
