It's just a computer - the software is what will attract people of different age ranges to it. Personally, we feel around 7-8 is a good place to start; you have to be able to handle some fairly abstract concept that very young kids don't have the development for yet. After that, the world's your oyster.

My youngest daughter is three years old, and will incessantly nag her oldest sibling off the family PC so that she can get at the games on the CBeebies website.

She can't read or write more than her own name, yet took to using keyboard and mouse to "play" the educational games on the BBC website like a fish to water.

I think programming might be a bit beyond her yet, unless it was a game and she didn't really know she was doing it.

Liz, is that years or months?    My oldest daughter first touched computers at age 5 months IIRC.  The lab had terminals hooked up to a central computer and you had to enter control-C to get a login prompt.  If you pressed anything else, the terminal beeped.  Daughter was very happy to tap away and hear lots of beeps.  Cow-orkers probably didn't find it as amusing.
