Serial console (UART) issues with the PRi3 Yocto build

Wed Jan 24, 2018 7:24 pm

Hi,

I successfully built a RPi3 SD card image with the Yocto project. I followed the official guide from THIS webpage, i.e. I:
- added meta-raspberrypi, meta-poky and meta-openembedded to the conf/bblayers.conf file (all on the master branch HEAD)
- add to the local.conf file following features:
ENABLE_UART = "1"
RPI_USE_U_BOOT = "1"
MACHINE = "raspberrypi3"

-run bitbake rpi-hwup-image

I can see in the config.txt file (after dd the sd card) that the enable_uart is set to 1, but I do not get any prints on console while booting (actually I do not get any prints at all). I'm wondering if this issue has something to do with the branches of the meta-layers. I've built the RPi3 image some time ago and it was working... Maybe building from the master branch of the meta-raspberrypi is not the best idea? If yes, which one should I choose?

I'd succes with
Poky (Yocto Project Reference Distro) 2.4.2 raspberrypi3

Hi,

I forgot also to tell, that the branch was rocko. Moreover, I only used:

Code: Select all

ENABLE_UART = "1"
MACHINE = "raspberrypi3"
However, for me the issue applies, when "bitbaking" for the rpi-basic-image with above configuration items together with my other configuration items...

Hi,

Now everything works as expected. I really don't know what happened?...
