Projet switch : Is this gonna work ?

Sat Jan 13, 2018 4:38 pm

Hello,
I'm planning on making a Nintendo switch clone with a raspberry pi 3.
I found this on the forum but it's for raspberry zero. I assume that the connection to the raspberry is different but is the rest good for the rasp 3 ?

Also, I found a lot of stuff. Can you tell me if that's good?
- a simple little on/off switch
- the adafruit powerboost 1000c
- this sound card + jack to disassemble a little
- 2 gameboy color/advance speakers (idk  )
- a gameboy color volume wheel
- this micro USB charging port
- this USB hub to disassemble (I was told it work on raspberry zero)
- This stereo amp
- this controller who I want to disasemble to connect it with cables to the raspberry
- this screen
- this controller board for the screen
- a battery (I'll take according to the place I have left)
- a box printed with a 3D printer

I'm not sure at all for the screen and the controller board if they gonna work with the rasp....

Also, I wonder if I Can use two different controllers to play without redoing the keys each time. The one I said above for portable mode and an ajouter bluetooth one for TV mode.

What do you think ?

Seeing as the pi 3 has the added advantage of protection on the micro USB power socket my advice would be to use this for your power in, as the pi 3 also has 4 full size USB ports I would just use one of them to connect the USB sound card. ( you may not need the powered hub at all )

As the controller shown is Bluetooth you may not be able to connect it wired, and I dont know if it is supported via the pi Bluetooth.

Looking at the controller board for the screen it looks like it is VGA input only , the pi does not support VGA you need one with HDMI input.

One other thing to be aware of is that the pi 3 will required more power ( more amps if you like) than a pi zero so you may find the the adafruit powerboost 1000c reaching its limit with the pi 3 and all the other parts powered from it.

That's just my observations in the end its down to you to make sure that your project is going to work with the parts you have selected.
the first part of any project is the research and component selection.

This controller board has a VGA input. The raspberry Pi does not have a VGA output and you'd need an additional converter. You'd be better finding a screen controller that has HDMI support.

Thanks you for your help. I see more clearly now.
I found this screen now. Do you think it'll work ? It say "raspberry" in the title but I don't know if it's a trick or not...
And for the USB ports on the rasp 3, I want to remove it to make it slimer.
I found this too. It's kind the same but with a wiiU : https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1607

Édit : I also found this screen. What do you think ?

With reference to the screen I see nothing on how to drive it from a pi in fact all the software seems geared towards windows, so it may be down to you to get it working.

with regards removing parts from a pi don't do it unless you have the right equipment and the skills to use it, its a good way to destroy you pi as people have found out to there cost.

The screen is my greatest ussue. I can't find a good one or they are too expensive for me. I really want a screen between 5.5" and 6.2" (6" is the best) to be close to the switch and to have space to put the ports (micro usb, micro sd ect) where I want (above the screen).
Maybe a screen like this and mod it like this ? But I can't found a 6" monitor like this :?

If you don't mind it a little bigger, the official Pi 7" screen would probably make it easier.

Worry about the screen last, you can prototype it with a larger screen until you find what you want. Then build the case last to get it all into.

If removing the USB ports is anything like removing a broken A+ single port, you'll need a good hot solder iron, some strong snips and the ability to swear loudly ;-)

You'll want to be looking for a 2A+ powerboost. Best bet is to pull the cover off some slim "USB batteries" as you'll have the battery & the charging setup.
While it can run off a 1A quality usb battery, it might not with all your attachment.
