an APRS iGate implementation using the Raspberry-Pi

Wed Oct 17, 2012 10:32 am

Hi,
I have been working on building an APRS iGate from the Raspberry Pi. The setup consists of a USB soundcard that listens to incoming APRS packets and a WiFi USB adapter that connects the Pi to the Internet. I managed to fit everything inside a extruded aluminum enclsoure as you can see in the image below:

I wanted to share the build process, you can find the details here:

Thanks,
Jatinder

Very nice. Now I might have a use for the effectively unprogrammable Icom V80 that I won to fill in the patchy APRS gating in my neighbourhood ...

Our repeater group has been considering putting up an APRS digipeter for a while now, but the cost has got to be low so the RaspPi might be a good solution. We don't need a gate, since there is no Internet on-site. What are your thoughts on the possibilities of making the RaspPi handle two-way traffic with the same hardware?

Here is another APRS application for the Raspberry Pi. It includes a "soundcard" software modem, digipeater, APRStt gateway, and Internet Gateway (IGate).
