Raspberry Pi Backup options

Sat Jan 06, 2018 1:02 pm

I use raspiBackup from here https://www.linux-tips-and-tricks.de/en/backup
I am planning to restore backups from my Mac if needed. It is just to restore my homebridge in case I messed something up or the SD card fails.

Which one of the options would you recommend? I read the explanations on the user Guide. But the implications are not clear for me.
Can it be recommended to use:
  • normal mode (supports two partitions) - I have stretch installed for homebridge (no noobs or anything else)
  • dd ddz or rsync? does rsync work to be restored from a Mac?

I would like to hear your thoughts.

It's an old thread I just stumbled upo but let's add some informationn: Use rsync if you can (you have to have a ext4 partition in order to get hardlink support). It's faster from a backup point of view and much more robust than dd backups.
