Chrismas planning: peripheral/projects suggestions

Tue Oct 16, 2012 11:28 am

Hi,

So if everything goes according to the plan, I'll get a rpi delivered before xmas for my 14 years old.

I suspect using the pi as a "normal" computer isn't going to hook him for too long and was wondering what device would be good to plug in and so we could work on reading or controlling it.

I thought about
- some leds (who doesn't like blinky things?). Any suggestion of cheap multiple led devices or examples of chrismas light that have been hacked?

- a webcam. Are they simple projects around movement recognition we could work on?

- a soundcard. Got already a usb sound card. Any suggestion with that? Although I suspect anything that make noise is going to make me unhappy quite quickly, unless I can enforce a strict "headphone only" policy

Any experience or project you could share with me?

X+

If your in the US I just picked this up off eBay seems a good deal.

Not sure your experience with this kind of stuff but Adafruit has some good starter tutorials if your more advanced then you can look at the stuff not done with the Pi and transfer over to it.

They also have all the parts you need.
