Using > 256MB memory splits on 256MB board?

Tue Oct 16, 2012 3:38 am

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if you tried to use one of the new larger memory splits on one of the 256MB boards? Would it instantly ignore it and use the largest split for the CPU or would it just freeze up until you changed things?

to start of, the pi needs the gpu to boot, so it needs a bit of memory dedicated to it.
then you have the issue of making the pi try to allocate 256mb to the gpu and 256mb to the ram... won't work, but even if they did make a split of 256/0, it would not boot

Indeed, thus the question if there was any logic in the device to recognize that an invalid memory split was occur and auto-correct ;-)

Thanks for the answer Lob0426!
