Pi interfering with TV

Mon Oct 15, 2012 12:36 pm

Hello, here's a strange one for you. I have a Pi plugged in to my TV using a HDMI cable. I'm running Raspbmc RC5 on the Pi, and i leave it running 24/7.

However, sometimes when I'm watching TV (not on the Pi) the picture will start to artifact then break up completely. I can resolve this by unplugging the HDMI cable from the Pi.

I haven't established a pattern for this behaviour yet. I managed to watch Homeland on TV last night without issue, my wife managed to watch other programmes too. However, around 8.00 this morning, the interference appeared again.

My first suspicion is that the HDMI cable I'm using isn't adequately shielded, I haven’t tested with a different one yet. I’m wondering whether anyone has any other ideas?

Yes, radiation from HDMI cables can affect Digital Terrestrial TV (aka Freeview in the UK). Usually just putting a little more distance between the HDMI lead and the aerial cable will effect a cure. (Or a better screened HDMI lead.)

I have a similar issue, thou the interference is constant on almost all channels.
Disconnecting HDMI cable is enough to get rid of the static interference, tried with other HDMI cables but still the same problem.

Read a hint about some grounding issue or a 5V0 rail issue on the HDMI that is causing this?

What would be the best solution if any?
