Volume low after google assistant installation

Thu Dec 21, 2017 10:40 pm

Novice raspberry pi (RPi) and google-assistant AIY (GA) here,

I'm looking for help. Yesterday, I was attempting to do a new install of GA on my RPi using some dated information on a website. I eventually realized that the google SDK was updated yesterday (12/20/17) per the website. The google assistant setup looks different now and also requires that you do a "register device" step to get the GA to work properly. Nevertheless, I was able to successfully install GA on my RPi. I was also able to setup auto startup after RPi boot-up using a guidance provided on the misperry youtube website - "google assistant auto startup" video. My problem know is that the volume seems low. I tried to use the volume adjust feature located at the top right corner of the Rpi desktop screen, but it didn't help. I also tried to use the "audio settings" which is in same location as the "raspberry pi config" option. But there was no volume adjust feature to use. I have a RPi using the Voice Hat Kit.

Do anyone know how I can adjust the volume (louder)?

I'm also experiencing the same issue. I installed Google assistant on my Pi 3 yesterday. Speakers are connected to the 3.5mm headphone socket, and I'm using a USB mic. I've tried adjusting the volume in every place I can think of (audio settings, Pi volume, Alsamixer, speaker volume), but the volume remains really low for Google assistant. The volume is fine for all other applications.

If anyone has found a solution, I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

The google team who look after they AIY software are in the process of implementing a patch to upgrade to the new version of the assistant. https://github.com/google/aiyprojects-raspbian/pull/207 It has yet to be merged

I've patched my AIY voicekit with the new files and yep the volume of the assistant is not even as loud as a whisper. If you crank the volume up you can hear the assistant but anything that is spoken to you as part of a local command is speaker shattering in it's volume level.

I've documented the issue on the pull request mentioned above and raised an issue at the github site for the assistant https://github.com/googlesamples/assist ... issues/145

I have also noticed the volume is load for local command and quiet for non local commands.
When I ask what the volume is she says 70%.
When I ask her to set it to maximum the light just continually blinks and its froze.

There is no error when running as a virtual env either

edit:
Itx not froze silly me, you can ask her commands even when the light is blinking, she answers at the new volume and it goes back to normal breathing blinking

Thank you for this tip! It helped me, now I've got her voice back. ( At first my dad thought volume control wasn't possible... hahaha)

Amy: Dan, do you know what this is? It's the manifest of Rackham's ship!
Dan: Cool!
Dan: What's a manifest?

You can also just say:

"Hey Google, can you speak up?"

Than the volume changes gradually. If once saying it isn't enough say it twice or thrice!

Works perfect! I had the struggles as well! =)
