UV4L looks like something different than an application to make video calls.
Does it mean there is no real application for doing that with a Raspberry?
Or is there a more specific guide/site explaining how to use UV4L for making video calls?

Debian has linphone, so I would presume that Raspbian also does, but I haven't used it on an rpi. I have used it on a Debian laptop and on android.

Also, there are web based ones like Google and Skype, but they might be too heavy for rpi, once again never tried.

It might be that anything without UV4L will not use hardware acceleration, in which case it will be horrible for video.
