Re: Assigning an IP to Respbarry Pi 2 Model B1.1

Then my obvious question is: If no video, why a keyboard and mouse?

The obvious solution is plug that HDMI cable into a TV and see what is going on.

Did you enable ssh on the Pi after writing the image to the card?

You need to enable ssh on the card before you put it in the Pi.

Plug it into a windows system (or whatever you used to create it) and make a file called "ssh" or "ssh.txt" in the first partition of the card. Then put it in the Pi and power up. SSH should then be enabled.

1. Remove power from the RPi and remove the SD card.
2. Put the card in your Ubuntu laptop and use the dd command to write the Raspbian image to the card..
3. After the dd command returns with what it has done, wait a few seconds and remove the card from the laptop.
4. Re-insert the card into the laptop. Ubuntu should show two drives on the card. You need to do the following two operations in the root directory on the smaller size drive - the one that contains config.txt and cmdline.txt and many others.
5. Create a file with name ssh. It can contain anything, even a single character or nothing at all.
6. Use a text editor to open cmdline.txt. At the end of the existing line (NOT a new line) add a space and

Code: Select all

ip=192.168.3.201
and save the file.
7. Safely eject the card.
8. Put the card in the RPi.
9. Connect RPi to laptop with an ethernet cable.
10. Set your laptop to have an IP address 192.168.3.200.
11. Apply power to the RPi and confirm it is booting by observing the green LED flickering for 10s of seconds.
12. Open a terminal window on the laptop and type

Code: Select all

ssh pi@192.168.3.201
13. At the password prompt enter

Code: Select all

But tell me 1 point...

Do I again and again need to create ssh file, in the boot partition of card as it is been deleted at the time of booting ?? Is there any alternative of this ??

No you do not need to create the file ssh file again unless you reinstall the OS again.
Now you can enable VNC by using the config utility via ssh

Code: Select all

sudo raspi-config
Go here for my RPi writeup. Basic config, Serial Port add-on etc:

1. Vnc host: Display
2. VNC Password
3. Proxy gateway
4. Remote ssh command

4. Remote command .... Not able to decide .

On hitting connect some interface is displaying but none graphics interface is displaying ?

Why aren't you just connecting your Pi2 to your router with the Ethernet cable?
My password is the last 8 digits of Pi.

If you are using Ubuntu, install and run nmap to see if your RPi shows up on the network.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install nmap
nmap 192.168.3.0/24
