@ startup, wireless output ~100 bytes: no firewall. Current NOOB:S, bought card.

On startup, with a bought NOOBS card, wireless output was noted. The system log also shows wlan0 being set-up, Since no firewall appears to be set-up the aforesaid connection appears imprudent. err.... why the output

After the handshaking to obtain an IP from your router, one of the first things raspbian does on obtaining a connection to the internet via your network is set the time on the system from the internet, that's probably what you are seeing.

As for there not being a fire wall active on the pi at boot up, if you are sitting behind a router you will be fine, unless you intend to port forward connections from the internet to your pi. for example run a web site on your pi for the world to see or access it via the web from the other side of the world.
